In a different thread I got some help from DiapDealer. In that case, Sigil generated a whole new opf file, with new IDs and everything turned out fine.
So I proceeded along with a second omnibus, and followed his advice. In the opf file I created my own ID number from my last name, the date and the time. It looked like it worked for two of the books, but the third one thought it was the same as one of the others, so I could only put TWO books at a time on my Kindle. I went over and over the two books, made some changes, and now all THREE books think they are the same and I can only put ONE book on at a time. book 1 content.opf <dc:identifier id="uuid_id" opf:scheme="uuid">lname-20140221-2352</dc:identifier> <dc:identifier opf:scheme="calibre">lname-20140221-2352</dc:identifier> toc.ncx <meta content="lname-20140221-2352" name="dtb:uid"/> book 2 content.opf <dc:identifier id="uuid_id" opf:scheme="uuid">lname-20140222-0030</dc:identifier> <dc:identifier opf:scheme="calibre">lname-20140222-0030</dc:identifier> toc.ncx <meta content="lname-20140222-0030" name="dtb:uid"/> book 3 content.opf <dc:identifier id="uuid_id" opf:scheme="uuid">lname-20140222-0054</dc:identifier> <dc:identifier opf:scheme="calibre">lname-20140222-0054</dc:identifier> toc.ncx <meta content="lname-20140222-0054" name="dtb:uid"/> The ISBNs and the ASINs are unique and correct for the individual books. The titles are all different, and the author of course is the same. Something somewhere is telling the Kindle that these books are the same, but I have no idea where it might be. Help? Please? ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

I'm not sure IDs are your problem here. All three IDs are different (I would get rid of the "opf:scheme='uuid" though, since that's not what you're using. I believe I suggested that in the other thread). Each also has a second calibre ID (but again, all three are different--and books can have multiple IDs), I assume you've used calibre's editor on the books at some point? If so, why not just use calibre's built-in feature to generate new IDs?
But more likely: check all the dc metadata in the OPF file (not calibre's metadata for the book; the OPF file) and make sure devices aren't thinking the books are the same because the title and the author are the same there. EDIT: well I was told the calibre editor could generate a new ID, but perhaps I was misinformed. I can't seem to find the feature if it does exist. Sorry. Maybe you could load the books in the calibre editor, and use the Check Book feature. Then it'll tell you everything it thinks that's wrong with the book, and it can fix most errors.
Also check the metadata if you haven't already. If you split an omnibus, the splits will retain the metadata of the original, making the seperate books all look the same. (Oh, scrap. The DC-metadata DiapDealer is mentioning is actually the same stuff is I was trying to tell you to check ![]() |

(sigh)
Nothing to do with IDs, although I'd really expected it. As it turns out, a little more careful examination of the metadata revealed that I'd missed something... <meta content="Book One, Book Two, Book Three" name="calibre:title_sort"/> Editing the individual elements(?) for the appropriate books seems to have solved the problem. Since I trashed the OPF files in the other omnibus, there was no calibre:title_sort element to cause a problem. Katsunami, I didn't try the Check Book, but I don't think it would have found anything since there really wasn't a problem with each book alone, only when you tried to look at more than one. |
