Search View.....

This is so stupid. I know I have seen this before and have had to correct it on my installation before but cannot remember how or where I found the information.

So, when I do a search on Calibre, it shows me the items that match the search as highlighted items in the full list instead of showing just those items and nothing else. I don't know what I hit recently that changed this, but it's driving me nuts. Can someone with a better memory point me in the right direction?!

How about Prefs - Searching, 2nd checkbox on the left?

OK first...my blind behind went looking for a search preference and saw everything but that

Second, I have not changed anything in there lately, at least not on purpose. I kept thinking I had a button that would allow me to toggle between highlight and exclusive, but could not find it to save my sanity and now I have it back.

No problem I think the button was ON by default until quite recently.

Maybe if the Blue bars were instead Green,
And if the button was Greyed when there's no search,
Then the purpose of the button would be more obvious
And it's permanency could be reinstated.

The button was removed in v1.11:

Remove the button to toggle search result highlighting from next to the search bar, as too many people click it accidentally and then do not realize what they have done, despite the confirmation message that pops up. The button can be restored via Preferences->Searching

But apparently one of the plugins causes this to toggle back, I think, and no one knows why??

Would that be the Hypothetical Plugin or a Real Plugin, if latter which one ?

IIRC the Find Duplicates plugin toggles search highlighting and a quick look through its source code finds

config['highlight_search_matches'] = new_state

so that is definitely one culprit, though it also contains code to restore the original highlighting state, presumably that fails in some circumstances.

Ah-ah. that's the plugin I've been installing/uninstalling as and when required because of the 'permanent marking of excluded books'

Maybe Import List could be a second culprit. When it puts books into a reading list I think it only shows those books so it may also need to set the setting to red slash on blue bars. I will try to remember to watch out for it next time I use it.

I Also Had this Problem, and Thought it was the Virtual Libraries, Too

Did a Look for the a Fix, and Stumbled on the Phrase, "I'm sure this has been answered somewhere" and Found How To Fix This...

I Guess This Was Not Clear (The Check Box - Discussed Here) to Me What This Was For ?? Thanks Again...
