Help creating readers for autistic kids
I'm needing a software program (hopefully Calbre) that a parent can personalize for their child and/or a teacher can change images in the book.
Explanation: Autistic, down, intellectually and emotionally disable students can't read using traditional methods. I have a new system that I used to teach special ed kids using visually enhanced reading books. The readers are simple enough, I can create them in Word. The problem with them is that parents have to be able to change the images easily for the books to be of real value. This is what I hope someone can help me develop a plugin that can make this happen. Example: The book's title is "All About Me". The parent opens the book on any device then changes the pictures in the book to personalize it for her kid. She would yake pictures with her cell phone or the like, then use those to replace the pictures in the book as needed - Page One says "This is me!" and the picture is a picture of a cartoon boy. Mom clicks the picture to chage it, it asks if she wants to replace this picture with a new one and she clicks "YES", then it opens a browse button to locate the file and image. She clicks the picture and it's replaced with a picture of her son. This would be the same for mom, dad, sister, brother, teacher, flower, tree, school, car et al. Why? These kids will only learn if the word and picture together can be associated enough to mean something to them. This builds vocabulary for the student. Once they learn fifty to a hundred words, they can read and begin to write. Right now, I have to personally change every book, every picture everytime. I want this for a larger audience than just my students, I want to offer it to kids and parents everywhere. Big question: Does anyone here have the ability to create such a plug in for Calibre e-books that will work on most or all devices and allow the book to be printed? FYI, I have published on Amazon.com, Createspace and through a publisher. I don't want to charge for this E-book reader. It would feel like I'm taking advatnage of the disabled, the free reader and plug in would be made available for free on my website Your help is needed and greatly appreciated. Thanks ![]() |
