Need help with conversion of texts

Need help with consistent conversion with Text.
I am having a problem when I try to convert from RTF to EPUB.
I have Windows 7 premium and Microsoft Word 10.
I use Times New Roman 12 regular, 12 bold, 14 bold italic centered in the RTF document.
When it is converted into EPUB it doesn’t show up in the right text. Sometimes it doesn’t show up in bold or italic.
Sometimes only part of a line will be bold.
Most everything is 12 regular.
Any suggestions?
I can not get hold of Calibre to help with this. There is no number or tech email I can find.

You could try Atlantis Word Processor; open the .rtf file with Atlantis and then save the file as ePub.

Is Times New Roman part of the fonts available in your ipad?

Otherwise it will be displayed in an available font.

It is better to specify in ems, rather than in points, if it is to be used in any other device once you get it the way you want it. 1 em is the base font size and you can size up and down from there and it will allow the ereader theoretically to size things up and down appropriately no matter how much or little you have asked it to zoom the text.

If it will work with your Word version, you might consider Toxaris' add on to produce an epub. There is no charge for it.

Calibre is developed by Kovid Goyal who lives in Mumbai, India and his product is donationware.

You can ask for help in the Calibre forum on Mobileread (click on Forums at the top of this page) and he or someone else familiar with Calibre (and there are many people familiar with it) can help you with your questions.

Welcome to MobileRead

There is a calibre forum within the MobileRead software forum. In the calibre forum there are several subforums, one of which is conversion.

Your post brings back memories of when I was new to MobileRead, and stumbled around for some time finding my way.

Amen. There is just no way to absorb everything at once.

What a number of people do is keep it very simple when working with the epub. Then as understanding permits and when you see something interesting, you can go back and add it to your epub.

Even long time users who post their transcribed books in the Mobileread library will post updated versions again and again to fix small errors and make them more attractive.

What continually amazes me is how often I think I have finally corrected a book and then when it gets into my reader I read it and find mistakes that are obvious in reading and not obvious in correcting.

I sometime wonder whether ebooks are living things which mutate in the time between the final proofread and the upload to the MobileRead library.

BTW, I recently stumbled upon the free LanguageTool style and grammar checker. Like most commercial grammar checkers, it's far from being perfect, but might be useful as a final sanity check. (You can see it at work here.)
Since it supports checking text from the clipboard, you could switch to Book View mode in Sigil, copy the text to the clipboard and have it checked by pressing CTRL+Y in LanguageTool.

The neat thing about this checker is that rules are defined as regular expressions; i.e., new rules can be easily added manually or via a web-based rule editor, which will generate the required XML code for you.

I have an aversion to Java as a security hazard, so I installed the Firefox add on. When I trial checked some text on the screen it said (correctly) that the local server wasn't running and asked if I wanted to enable the web version, which I did.

I tested some text from the add on page and got several responses. They were not useful because of the technical text. But I can unzip the final epub and load them into the browser and check.

Anything to help is very useful.
