My old & new Kobo touch. Setting up

I have had a Kobo touch for a couple of years.
Am thinking of buying a newer one and giving my old one to my daughter.
Not bothered about Kobo books i have read on my old one But have many sideloaded books on it
Can they stay on it?
How can I change the user and email address on it?
Also cannot remember how to set the new one I bought up.
Can I keep the same email address?

If your sideloaded books are DRM free, then yes, you can copy them to your new reader and read them. If the sideloaded books are protected by DRM then these books can not be read because its a different reader with a different device identifier.

But these DRM issues can be solved the official way. Just enter the same account settings (Adobe, Kobo Facebook, Pocket) on your new reader.
To authorize your new reader with "Adobe epub" DRM connect your reader to a PC and open Adobe Digital Editions. Under library you'll find an option "authorize my device" and click on it. That's all. Note: "authorize my device" is also present in the left navigation panel.

So all I have to do with my new ereader is authorise it in ade?
Then do what with the old one? I want to add a new account email address to it .
And is it possible to leave the DRM free books on it or do I have to factory reset it? Last time I tried that it froze for hours!!!!

You can use the same Kobo user on more than one device. At the moment, I have a Glo, to Touches and the apps on an iPad and an iPhone all logged into the same account.

When you setup the new device and login to the same account, it will automatically download the books for the account. Plus their reading status and any annotations. Any sideloaded books will need to be put onto the new device.

If you want to use a new account on the old device, then go to the settings and "Accounts" page and sign out. The device will remove any downloaded books, restart and take you through the basic setup. You can create a new account when doing this.

Depending on the age of your daughter and where you are, you might want to look at the "Kids" account. These are attached to the main account and put some restrictions on the books that can be seen. Plus you can give the account an allowance to buy books. This isn't available in all countries.

If you're setting up a "Kids" account, you need to do this before setting up the reader. You will also need an email address for the account different than the main account (we used Gmail). Accounts are totally separate, you cannot access any books bought on the kids account (though you will emails about the books bought on that account).

Thanks. My daughter is an adult lol.
So can I create an account for my daughter and give the Kobo to her ready to use with side loaded books?
Will she then just have to install Kobo desktop and ADE on her PC?

Mine are getting that way to. Well, one is legally an adult, but he's following my footsteps with respect to the "growing up" part of it.

Yes again. But personally I only use ADE to download books with Adobe DRM and then use calibre manage and to sideload them.

Thanks again
So I have got the old eReader in front of me
Do I have to factory reset it, how do I get rid of the sideloaded books in one go?
Do I have to set it up again?
Can you tell me in simple steps please?
The new one is ready to go now lol

Is it necessary?

The simplest (as in steps) way of removing all the sideloaded books is a factory reset.

The next is with calibre. Connect, go to the device list, select all the books and delete.

You can also delete all the book files when the device is connected to the PC. This can cause some problems, but if you did a logout afterwards, that would create a new database and those problems would go away.
