Kindle Task Manager development.
Hi i wasted yesterday trying to learn how to make applications on Kindle.
I read and searched everything here, dowloaded eclipse, and tried to build something with the sdk and lib jar on the kindle opt folder without success. Im a beginner developer, how knows something about c, ruby, php. I never toched Java, because i think is an horrible clumsy mess, and yesterday i tried several kindlet code that for some obscure reason it has to be 1.4 compatible. Im neither a good user of eclipse dont even know how to import properly a third party java project and get it running without errors, i prefer sublime text, vi. At the end on the day i saw TCC as an other option. Im interested on building a sort of calendar, task manager, app using the kindle as a personal tracker. Dont have a problem if the interface is libncurses based. The other option is building a website compatible with the kindle experimental browser, with some serverside scripting ruby/python on the net. Or is possible to use sqlite with a localhost site inside the kindle? What do you think would be the simplest option to develop something focused more on functionality than bypassing framework limitations? |

I think that the simplest would be for you to install the existing calendar and personal tracker(s) already posted at this site.
PS: You are not going to learn Kindle development in a single day. The learning curve is a bit longer than that. ![]() |

Hi, thanks will try to see how i can adapt taskwarrior or pal to my Kindle Keyboard 3, because it was made for pw/touch. Or at least create an arm debian virtualbox machine to deploy some compatible binaries.
This terminal works great on kindle 3 https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=154500 and has 12x24 size fonts. |

Well, finally i made a chroot with a debian multistrap, will see if i can run x, or just install emacs, and its addons.
Is there any gain on replacing entirely kindle os with debian? Last edited by zxcvbs; 01-23-2014 at 02:15 PM. |

Yes i know, but will running it fully formating the kindle and installing debian, will have better user experience than loading chroot from time to time?
I want to run some apps, but the main function of my kindle is reading. |

Then leave the Amazon system alone. Changing the operating system (and making it work) is a tremendous amount of work. And will most likely only worsen your use of the Kindle for its "main function". |

As much as I would like to see someone ELSE do a full Debian install - I can't imagine it worth the trouble. The title tricks needed to work with the awesome window manager are a pain, though, so maybe you want to see what has been done with Xephyr - or even stop the current X and run a different X/wm. Twobob was working on that and had it working here somewhere - even ran VLC with a video.
Simple programs can be modified to run native if you hack the title and maybe a few other changes. These hacks are all here somewhere - search and search! |

Well after a time, i have finished reading , Embedded Linux Primer: A Practical Real-World Approach.
Local chroot is not a good option, this device has wifi, so i will try to boot through tftp plus nfs, and see what can i do from there. I have the presumption that there is something about laptop displays, fan noises, internet connection, body posture that makes me go crazy, or improductive and tired. Tired in the way that, one tries to finish reading something for the act of finishing it instead or getting focused on getting in the actual concepts, dispersion/distraction. Kindle is a good start to actally learn Linux fundamentals. |
