Author sort newbie

Hi i'm new to calibre, I love it! Ok so i have put all my ebooks in calibre. How can i sort them by last name, first name. I have read many posts about the tweak. I looked and was lost. I'm not a computer person so none of it made sense on what i was to do or change. So step by step is the best for me.

If you have the default settings (which means you have author set as 'first name laname' and author_sort derived to be 'latname, firstname') then that is the behaviour you get when you click on the authors column header.
