Amazon Metadata not getting kindle edition
when downloading metadata from amazon, the kindle version is not downloaded and no ASIN is returned. is there any way to check for kindle editions first?
Example:"The talented mr. ripley" points to http://www.amazon.com/dp/0393332144/ref=cm_sw_su_dp should be http://www.amazon.com/Talented-Mr-Ri...0339845&sr=1-1 |

if you give it the identifier for the ebook, it will download the exact edition that the identifier points to. In this case, add "amazon:B007Q6XJGS" to the identifiers. Instead of "amazon" you could use "asin", but either way works.
If you originally imported from an Amazon mobi, I use the Edit Metadata in bulk search & replace shown in the screenshot (attached) to add amazon: identifiers based on the mobi-asin that is built into each Amazon book. |

the issue is I don't know the ASIN when downloading the metadata, that's what I'm trying to retrieve. this is for a sideloaded book that I want to use whispersync with.

Whispersync is by definition not for sideloaded books (in the sense that sideloaded books usually aren't from Amazon. but made/converted yourself). Adding ASIN to the identifiers will not be updated in the book, as Kovid was worried this would lead to confusion.
You can use Java MOBI Metadata Editor, however, to embed new ASIN's into the correct Meta fields, but it cannot be done in bulk. As far as getting the Kindle editions, you will have to go to Edit metadata and download the metadata manually, it will give you an option to select which edition to use, if multiple editions are found. This includes choosing between hardcover and Kindle editions. |
