New Tool: Arrange into Folders

I like this tool a lot, it allows you to use the "official" method of structuring your ebook files, or any other method you like, because unlike Sigil, you get to specify the folder where each type of file gets stored!

, Kovid!

Any chance of an option to automatically sort according to those settings?

You're welcome

What sorting are you referring to?

eschwartz, I do aggree with kovid here, ... and at the beginning my opinion was like yours about the BIG importance of "folder" structure.

I mean, why are you and other people so focused on internal epub folder structure? From the final user point of view it's pretty irrelevant. Only the spine order is important.

I could understand that interest in folders in the publishing staff which where manually managing the unzipped epub, adding and deleting files, copying from other base templates,... (And on second thoughts, probably even for that people the structure is irrelevant if they use any kind of automated tool in helping them..., like Calibre Edit Book).

So currently you can:
+Fully ignore internal ebook structure as it has no visible effect.
+Manually (and manually but in bulk) modify it to your own preference.
+Automatically (but manually launched), modify it based on file types.

And you also want "Aumotatically and automatically launched". What for? Just because Sigil did?

@arspr, possibly some people are very anal about this kind of thing? Anyone who really wants their structure might also want the structure automatically enforced, if the right option is set.

The ability to set ebook-edit to enforce the Arrange in folders (a/k/a sorting) rules whenever files are opened/added would be a nice expansion of the current functionality, but I agree most people will care just as little as they care about the ability to manually sort.

Hey, just because Sigil did it doesn't make it wrong. But choice is good.

Kovid, I just noticed that calibre_bookmarks.txt is being categorized as under "Text (HTML) files", which yanks it out of the META-INF folder. Kind of ironic that a calibre feature just attacked another calibre feature.

Anything which the File Browser sees as Miscellaneous should be ignored, I think. And only the stuff seen as Text should be getting moved by the Arrange feature.

Just browsing the list of commits to calibre (for advance knowledge of what the new release in what, a few hours time?) and saw you fixed this. That is, anything in META-INF doesn't get moved, now. And that change makes at least as much sense as ignoring MISC stuff (easier, too) so anyway, thanks.
