Slider For Backlight: Possible?
This might be an incredibly dimwitted question -- but is there any possibility of getting the Aura (new version) ability to adjust the light by sliding the screen( and without going through sixteen menu steps) ported over to the AuraHD? I assume there's a hardware limitation at work here, but figured it couldn't hurt to ask.
Thanks very much for any info. |

Re: the Aura6-style 2-finger-sliding, I wouldn't think so as I think it's dependent on a capacitive screen not an infrared screen.
On the Glo/AuraHD on fw 3.1.1, I count only 2 taps to bring up the light slider from inside a book: 1 - tap middle of screen to bring up menus 2 - tap light icon in top menu to bring up light slider. If you're on the Home page, Book list or similar only step 2 is required. Doesn't seem too onerous to me - although finger-sliding is obviously better ![]() |

My fault! I hadnt upgraded to the latest firmware yet. Now that I have, two taps is, indeed, ENTIRELY reasonable.
I just was going mad with the old way of tapping the light.... and then then MENU came up. Grrrr. |

![]() If you are not the hacker type, you might check out Sergey's KoboLauncher with Cool Reader. In Cool Reader you can define tap-zones and gestures. For instance you can call the backlight menu or toggle the backlight with a long tap. You also can define swipe gestures to adjust the backlight similar to the Aura 6". Up to no now there are only 1 step changes of the light intensity, so you'd eventually have to do a lot of swiping. But again, I just wanted to show that a backlight adjustment is possible. Hacking the Kobo Software might be the bigger problem ![]() Last edited by trekk; 01-19-2014 at 09:12 AM. Reason: I removed the guy ;) |

I stand corrected, trekk
![]() I'm only a hacker-type within certain limits (and a gal not a guy). Forcing my Kobo to run as a 3rd-rate android device is definitely not an option for me, I'll stick to using my 1st-rate smartphone for that. Also I know CoolReader is popular with many but, for me, it's strengths are negated by it's weakness in correctly displaying internal css styling. Quirky as the Kobo can occasionally be with following the epub2 spec, it's still much better than CoolReader in this respect. |

Lack of multitouch could be overcome by making it so that pressing and holding the light button turns the entire screen surface into one huge vertical slider - just an idea for a future hack should any interested hackers come along.
