Problem with Reader
I have just purchased the latest version of the Sony Reader and am having problems loading books from Calibre. When I write my books to the reader they do not register as loaded. No book list is created and no collections are created. I have read the FAQ for Calibre and have disabled Reader loading when I connect the Reader to my computer and have checked my device settings in Calibre.
I would appreciate any help with this matter. Thanks |

Are you using the "send to device" option (which should create the collections and save the files in the right place) or "save file to disk" option (which will save the files where ever you tell it to and won't create collections)?
I don't have a T3, but I thought the Sony Reader was one of the ones that requires the books to be in a specific location before it sees them. |

I have been using a previous version of the Sony Reader for 2 years and have not had problems sending books and creating collections. I have been using the 'Send to Device' to write the books to the Reader.

The easiest way to check is to connect your PRST3 to calibre, then right-click on the 'connected reader' icon and select 'configure this device'. This will pop up the current settings. Do they look correct? Have you defined anything for how Collections should be created? If you're not sure what the settings should be, try connecting your old Sony again and make a note of those config settings so you can replicate them for the PRST3. Similarly, if you were also using any metadata plugboards for your old Sony you will need to create/duplicate them for the PRST3 (using the PRST1 template). |

i have been using same settings for sony T2 & for prs-650. I am about to change to a T3 though. I cannot seem to find where you tell calibre what output device driver to use ?
I have connected my T2 reader , to check on menu options,, but" configure this device" is not it - that is just for metadata rules. I see nothing in epub output options either - I am sure I founn the place some time back but now I am lost - is it somewhere in plug-in settings or do you have to re-run the welcome process ? PS I do note that with the T2, you have to answer a yes/no on the reader touchscreen "do you want computer to recognise thsi device " - every time you connect it. not so on the older model. |

The Kobo readers do that as well, and possibly for the same reason on the Sony. If you select "no" there, it will allow you to keep reading on the device while it's charging for the Kobo. So it might be something you can't, nor don't want to, eliminate.

this thread worried me a little so I opened my new T3, plugged it into PC, transferred a book via calibre... & it showed up just fine on the T3.
windows 7 64 bit latest calibre, I did not change any old settings... |

I wonder if the OP forgot to do that on their T3 and that's why books aren't going over to it. |

he's not returned to update us, but he seemed to be saying he'd got the t3 to communicate with calibre & had transferred some books, but could not then see them on the device.
I did read elsewhere that is is impossible to get any windows version of ADE to see a connected T1 or T2 - dunno bout t3, but so long as calibre works I am not fussed about that. last I read, Adobe & Sony were happily each blaming each other & showing no desire to actually sort it ! |

Sony provides its own free software for all its Reader devices up to and including T3, called 'Reader for PC'.

yes, I have that also, still no excuse for not playing nice with ADE though.
sony software auto-authorises the device if the PC is authorised. call it a feature, call it an annoyance... I don't want my new T3 to be authorised, I am close to my 6 devices limit with my existing ADE account & don't want to waste one where it will not be used. it is also one of those "too helpful" programs. needs a lot of tweaking to get it out of calibre's /sigil's hair... & who knows how long it will last before Sony abandon support & disconnect their server, as they did with the reader version that's in the prs-650 firmware. I wasted an hour recently with that & with google, solving why it no longer connected to Sony reader store, and why it gave stupid "adjust your firewall "messages when you tried check for update, instead of saying, get the new program! |
