PRS303 to Kindle Paperwhite
I have had three different Sony readers, (505, 600, and the 303) as well as a Nook classic. That said, I am considering getting a Kindle paperwhite. I have a number of Kindle books that I read on my iPad/iPhone, and have learned that I can use Calibre to convert my open epub books to Kindle format.
My question is, what happens to books that are converted in Calibre and loaded into a Kindle? (I apologise if this has been answered before, I did search the forum before posting.) In the Nook, any non-Nook books are placed in a folder called My Documents, not Books. In a Sony, any book I add, as long as it it an epub appears in Books. So, in a Kindle, do non-native Kindle books appear in a different section or are they added into the Kindle book library? |

I think it might depend on the way you transfer the books to your Kindle. I convert my ePubs using Calibre and then use Calibre to transfer the books to my Kindle. Doing it this way causes the books to show up as books--and there is no differentiation on the Kindle between these books and books purchased from the Kindle store.

Oh good, that is exactly what I would have done. Thank you.

Make sure to set the device driver to use AZW3 as default.
- Plug in your device - Rightclick the device icon that appears. - Click "Configure this device" Then make sure AZW3 is at the top of the list. MOBI is the default. While that will work, it will destroy most of the layout of the EPUB books, as MOBI is a much older format. AZW3 will retain all the layout (with the exception of huge dropcaps: the Kindle, or Calibre's conversion, doesn't appear to support them, and they get rendered as a normal letter). |
