Latest firmware using the "stock" Kobo software?

			Hello.

Lots of people reporting and fixing issues with firmware updates with respect to interfacing their Kobos with Calibre. However, I just use the Kobo Desktop software to sync books that I buy from the Kobo store. I don't get books elsewhere and I don't sideload books. I'm curious if anyone uses their Kobo the same as me and if they have as many issues with the latest firmware? I have seen a thread about depleted battery life after update but it doesn't seem to affect a lot of people. I'm still on 2.8.1 and I buy my books from Kobo using the store on the device itself so as not to have to update. I'm curious if it's worth the update or if I should just hold off. Thanks! Kelly |

2.8.1 is a fine version of the firmware; stick with it. The only major thing you're missing out on is the use of Pocket to clip articles from the web and have them synced to your Glo.

Thanks. I don't use Pocket or have any idea what it really does. But any comments from the latest firmware?

The latest firmware for the Glo is 3.1.1 which is very solid, lots of extra features compared to 2.8.1 and no problems at all that affect me. But the latest firmware for the Touch is 3.0.1, which has some problems with books on the SD card, with sleep screen images, and sleep mode timeout.

Personally I thought the extra features of 3.0.1 still made it worthwhile upgrading from 2.8.1 despite the problems (since I don't need to use the SD card, and the sleep mode issues can be worked around, and I have no interest in sideloading kepubs), but it really depends on which features you use. |
