CBR Format
I am trying to go from a MOBI format to CBR format as the output. I can't see CBR as an option on the Calibre. Is there a plugin or someother way to convert MOBI to CBR?

I think that would need an Output plugin, and as far I know there isn't one for CBR
My understanding is that the only file type that Calibre will convert to a CBR is a RAR that contains images (and nothing other than images, I'm almost certain) Afterthought : if you could convert the MOBI to a 'scanned page' style PDF then you could maybe convert that to CBR with Comic Rack BR Last edited by BetterRed; 12-10-2013 at 05:41 AM. |

Just to clarify my prior statement & following on from DoctorOhh's post
If you add a RAR that only contains images calibre will create a CBR - by changing the file type from RAR to CBR, similarly a ZIP full of images will create a CBZ These are not convert operations as such, they're renames - the file extension of RAR or ZIP is simply changed to CBR or CBZ. BR |

Just use cbz instead. A cbr is nothing more than a rar archive with images. Cbz is exactly the same just zip encoded. Calibre does not convert to cbr because rar is not open and not free to use. Zip is free, so it could be used. I don't know if there is an option to use rar if you own it, but I doubt it. So just use cbz, all comic viewers I know display both formats.

Argh, you are right. Should have checked it. What I said is true for comicrak, comic tagger etc. which could all read cbr but not write to.
I think calibre does not do this, because there is no easy way it could see something is a comic and it could be problematic to just extract images from a mobi or epub. What the original poster could do, is either open the mobi with kindleunpack and hope that all the images are sequential named. Then just copy them somewhere and zip/rar them. Another possibility is to convert it with calibre to zip, open the zip and copy the images from there to make a cbz/cbr. |

Thank you for all the replies, thru many suggestions andbtrials. I have figured out that I need to convert it to a zip file as suggested. . Then I used another program called C.B.R. to convert the zip files to cbz... it is a process to go thru but it seems to be working. Until some one can find a simpler solution.

I don't see that as an output option on my Calibre.. that is why originally I had asked if there was a plugin or ssomething for it?

When you add a ZIP to a library - that only contains images and nothing but images - calibre will create the CBZ on the spot, by simply changing the extension from ZIP to CBZ. When you view the book (press V) the only format available will be CBZ. Download the attached ZIP to your desktop, drag'n/drop the zip from desktop into the calibre library list, and you should get what you see in the attached screen shot - it's really that simple.
