Does Kobo care?

Most people on Kobo know about the duplicate shelf problem. Seems Kobo doesn't care. Have been emailing Kobo since it started, they don't give a shit. Last email I got from Lobo was..... We are aware and working on it...

A few of my collections (formerly known as shelves) are in triplicate.

I haven't figured out how to use Calibre to take care of the problem, but this really is a Kobo problem that they should fix. Is it really truly that difficult?

I think if you configure the extended driver the options are there

I fixed my duplicate and triplicate shelves problem by editing the database on my Glo, with the help of members of this forum. My point is, Kobo have been aware of this problem now for some period of time, and still see unable or unwilling to solve it.

The last time my shelves multiplied I ended up with 10 duplicates of a few shelves.

To fix them, my utilities plugin has a option to fix the database automatically.

Hey there, I work at Kobo. Have you tried to load your libraries on different devices and get the same result? Do you also have an incident/ticket number I can look at?

I'll be more than happy to look into it for you.

Now, I do know that we can wipe out the entire shelf/collection, so you can start fresh. It's not an account issue, or even a device issue, it's something to do w/ the database. Few people out of the 18 million customers have this issue, so we're trying to pinpoint how, and where abouts this happens.

If you would like that done, please let me know. We can have it cleared for you, however we're unable to delete only one shelf/collection - it must be the whole thing. I know it's just a nuisance, however doesn't affect readability at all.

I think most people don't use shelves. Most that do will encounter this problem eventually or so it seems. We are so fortunate to have Davidfor, who fixes a lot of the things Kobo can't.

Does Kobo care? Apparently not enough to track this down and squash it like the bug it is.

We are so fortunate to have Calibre and people like Davidfor who does a lot to smooth the bumps in Kobo's road. If they had any brains they'd send him a new unit of every model they produce, bring him into the fold and slip him a few bucks every time he does their job for them, and possibly adopt him!

Ok, I admit my written grasp on reality can extend to the fluidic when posting, but they should reward someone who does so much and benefits them so completely.

As for most people not using shelves, I'd be lost without them unless I had Calibre append series info to every title. There are series with 30-some titles on my Kobo's.

I also agree that Kobo does not care. There are so many bugs that people complain about and in each new firmware that they release, we hope it fixes them. But no, bugs are still there. I have even contacted Kobo support about pdf book problems probably approx. a month ago that there are bugs (since fw 2.8.x) in landscape mode. They promised to send it to developers to fix it but what we can't see are fixes. Bugs still there.

Kobo is like Nokia in its old days when it was said: "once everything works what you use in your phone, don't upgrade FW because it probably brakes it." Meaning every new update that fix some issues brings new bugs in things that worked before

Fwiw I fixed this issue by renaming all my bookshelves. For example, if I had a bookshelf before called 'Mystery Books' and then had one in Calibre called 'Mystery Books' I would get the duplicate shelves when it syncced. Once I renamed all my collections to tiles Kobo did not know about, it used the Calibre collections and I stopped having the duplicates issue.
