4 identical shelves for each Tag in Kobo Aura HD
I can't be sure that it's directly a Calibre issue, or the recent Kobo update (2.8.1) but after transferring books to my Aura HD, I now see that under Library->Selves, each Tag (i.e. Adventure, Fantasy, etc.) is duplicated 4 times, with each one containing the exact books inside. Series shelves are fine, those are not duplicated.

I've not tried everything I can think of, including factory resetting my Kobo, making sure that once it's all set up again, the Shelves list is empty. No matter what I try, it always the same now. See the pic below:

That is almost definitely an issue caused by a sync to the Kobo server. There has been a few reports on this. See https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=220186 for the discussion, including a workaround to get rid of the duplicates.

Sorry for the very late reply - it appears that this was the problem indeed. I simply reset the device and created a new account (I don't have any need for "real" accounts), and it went back to normal. For kicks I recently logged back in with that old account, and the duplicate shelves reappeared. So, the only solution is what I've described at the start. Thank you for the idea on how to solve it.

Since that time, I have added a duplicate shelf cleanup to my Kobo Utilities plugin. This will remove the duplicates in such a way that they shouldn't come back. At least until the next bug on the server.
