1080p projector
I am thinking of buying a projector for viewing movies and other video at home. I'd like it to be 1080p in native resolution, no tricks with interlacing pixels or anything like that. Looking through Amazon I find it very difficult to figure out if a certain projector support that kind of resolution natively or not. I was hoping I might be able to find some BF deal. If anyone has one and has some input on this I would be most grateful.

If a "home theater" projector claims to be HD or 2K then it should be the native 1080p. If it is referred to as a "business" projector then check if the stats claim to support the 1920x1080 as a valid resolution (some do but most top out at WXGA or 1280x800).
Also be sure to check the lumens as they will effect the room lighting and the max size you can project and still have a clear image. A home theater projector for 16:9 images at 1500 lumens will need to be in a relatively dark room or at a smaller "screen size" of 90" or less where a projector at 4000 lumens will be clear at normal lighting at 120". |

Thank you, that helps. I'm thinking of getting a screen for it as well, in order to optimize the picture. It will be used exclusively at night time so the room should be dark enough, but I assume that a black back side on the screen would be preferably just to shut out any outside lighting (city lights). I would really like to get a pico projector, but I have a feeling that they are not ready for that kind of resolution and lumens yet.

This forum, especially the stickies, might be of some help not with BF deals, but with general info...

I don't think pico is what you really want for home theater. I think they are really just an alternative to hooking up an LCD for presentations. If you are really serious about a home theater projector that will be worthwhile you will be looking at around $1000. You might - might - be able to find a low lumen projector for low-light viewing only for around $800.
I've been watching and testing out these things for about 4 years now and can't find that balance between what I'm willing to pay and what I'm willing to settle for as far as final image quality. I would like something to replace the main family TV so it would be good for normal TV viewing along with "theater" style movie watching. If I was willing to hang black-out curtains in the windows of my living room and have a slightly blurry picture then I could have had my pick of any number of projectors running $200 to $600. The search continues. |

I'm looking at an Acer projector available for $800 with full HD and 3000 lumens, as far as I can tell it has the same specs as an Epson 8050 at $200 more. I'm attributing the lower price to the difference in production costs between Japan and Taiwan. I don't need speakers in the projector, my computer has Beats sound and I believe that will be sufficient for movies and shows, it will never be an Imax experience.
