KG won't turn on!
Hi folks,
I've searched for this, but the answers found didn't help me much. This is what happened and what i've tried so far. -unplugged KG from my desktop with the Calibre option "unplug device" -oops! won't turn on..do a 20s Hold/then a normal power on and it worked -everything works fine, i load some books on it fiddle around a bit and send the device to sleep mode. This morning...KG won't turn on. Already tried: -plug in into PC..no response -hold 20s/release/normal turn on -pin reset Is there any method to make this thing work? since i bought in USA and i live 15 hrs away on a plane from there i can't just "send it back" ![]() |

Keep doing what you have been doing occasionally, but chances are it will just turn on again.
Have poked and prodded my Aura HD for hours and in the morning it would be fine again. I think it just goes into a loop where it does not process external input from the switches/reset. Helen |

I would also try charging it overnight.
Good luck. |

based on my experiences there is also screen polling going on even when the device is turned off. My mini discharges much faster when I carry it in my backpack or pocket. I think there is a good chance that it will recover, or when it reaches the point that no lights flash, it will recover when plugged into USB port on computer. Hope so anyway. helen |

If you can, charge it for a few hours from a wall charger, not a PC USB port. If you do leave it to charge from a PC, make sure the PC is on the whole time, not sleeping or off.

I would save the image thing as a last resort as it doesn't seem that an upgrade caused the problem?
To repeat myself and others(sorry as you have probably done all this) push slider and hold for at least 30 seconds 3 times. plug into PC (try different port and cable) You are already charging so if this doesn't work try and let it discharge, helping it along by pushing button, poking screen etc. The fact that the lights come on seems to indicate it is not fried, just doing something bizarre. Never hurts to clean the screen/bezel, a little thing stuck in the bezel could cause a problem. I have had the screen unresponsive when a little piece of something was in the bezel at the bottom. If you do open it, try deleting the books first with a card reader before doing the image download thing. Helen |

Don't open it yet. If all you've tried is what's in this thread, you haven't yet tried to do a factory reset.
Charge fully Hold power button for 20-30 seconds to ensure device is off Hold light button down. While holding it down, slide and release power button. See if the LED light goes disco-ball. If not, repeat process. If it's still under warranty, DON'T OPEN IT. Contact Kobo customer service by phone or live chat (not email). Reports on warranty service/replacement have shown a fair bit of improvement lately. They may just send you a return package. |

![]() The device is brand new, it was ordered it on october 16th and i have it since this tuesday!. Imagine my anger when i couldn't turn it on. Still is under warranty, i'd talked to the CS live chat yesterday and they told me to send them some pics of me naked my Kobo front/back and the purchase order (i bought through Amazon) but no reply yet. Yesterday, after i tried to power on the KG and after the lights went green/blue, the screen changed and it begun to load normally, but when i touched the Menu Button the screen got frozen again. I'll try all those things again. ty all! --- Udate: its fully charged, i tried holding down the light button then slide-release but only a blue light turns on..then nothing, no disco ball LEDs, no screen changes ![]() Last edited by Antares; 11-17-2013 at 04:12 PM. |

But if it starts to turn on again, try connecting it to the PC quickly on the odd chance that you can delete your books that way. Helen |

I'm reading between the lines, but I hope that when you're trying these various resets you're giving the unit time enough to get started/get through the process you're trying to get going. I'm referencing where you said, "the screen changed and it begun to load normally, but when i touched the Menu Button the screen got frozen again." Did it finish loading, did you give it a few minutes? Some of these resets or restores take several minutes and the unit appears to be doing nothing while in the middle of them for fairly long periods.
I'd plug it in and let it charge for at least four hours, try holding the power slider for at least 20 seconds, then hold the reset button (paperclip) in while powering up for 5-10 seconds and watch the screen and for the light show on the LED when you release the paperclip. If unsuccessful, try again. Give the unit several minutes any time you try a reset and observe it to see what happens. If you have an SDHC card in the side, remove it first. You can try leaving it plugged in while doing this. Also make sure of the charging source and cable you're using. If the battery is low enough the unit will do nothing. Good luck. |

I didn't know any mobos did that. They probably use the same power supply section for external USB as they use for the soft powerup features(momentary power switch) and to maintain sleep mode wakeup functions. Cool.
