[Off Topic] Goodreads....for Music?
Hey all...I know this is off topic, but I thought the folks here might have some suggestions. I just got into Goodreads and was wondering if there is a similar site for Music?

Amazon.com might be of use. When shopping for albums in the MP3 Music section, there are user recommendations available. Also, as you shop there will generate recommendations for albums that you might like (including why they recommended it).
Another place I've found useful to find music is YouTube. It's helped me find new music that I might be interested in. |

You might look into Last.fm. I used to be on there quite a bit until they were bought out and changed their operation, but I still have some friends who use it. It's a way to spread the word about what music you're listening to, and I believe they have a way to comment and respond.
Still, I haven't been there in years, so my info is out of date. |

I used to use Last.fm too. It's not really social, at least no one used it for that. It was more for tracking what was being listened to, more than what our friends are listening to.
I'm only 24, and I can tell you from experience that sharing music isn't very fun. I've scared more people away than I have gotten people into artists and bands. Mostly because music is personal, can speak to the listener, and paints pictures in our minds. I have only been able to talk and share music openly with one person my entire life. A lot of people want to be told what to listen to by the industry. That's why iTunes Ping, the social aspects of Spotify, and Twitter Music are failing and failed. Most of it is just noise for the general public. |

First, thanks all for responding.....
I guess what I'm really looking for is a place to track the artists/genres I like and see when new stuff comes out and/find similar artists. Less social than goodreads, but still useful. Unlike my brothers I don't really live on music sites stalking my faves to see what their lives are like so I need a go between ;-) |
