Punctuation changed to boxes?

I transferred an EPUB,MOBI to my amazon kindle paperwhite using calibre.

Where ever there is a quotation mark, apostrophe or coma it is replaced by a small box with numbers inside it.

The book looks great when I view it on Calibre; its the transfer between calibre to the kindle.

Anyone know how to help?????

convert to azw3 not mobi.

I converted to azw3 and now I have no upper punctuation? Did I do something wrong?
