Kobo Glo?
Dear all,
I was wondering whether it was worth buying a Kobo Glo. I don't want o fork out the extra cash for the Aura, and don't want to go the Paperwhite route. Can anyone give me some advice? Thankyou, Waylander |

What are your essential features, what are your greatly-desired ones, what would you quite like, and what are your dealbreakers?
It might also help with background if you let us know why not the Paperwhite. (Or the Nook, or the other glowing e-ink readers.) |

I love my Glo. It is my favorite e-ink reader. It is small and light, I have a nice Chinese cover that is slim and form fitting and wakes and sleeps the device, and I love the integration with Calibre for my collections. I love that it has an SD card slot. I love that I have my favorite font side loaded and it works on all documents.
I don't, however, turn on the wifi and sync with Kobo. I don't use the Kobo desk top program. I don't upgrade my device anymore. "If it ain't broke, don't fix it!" is my motto. I disliked what one of the upgrades did, causing books to not open correctly, so I went back to the older one. And there I will stay. So, the Kobo Glo is perfect for my needs, but not necessarily yours. |

My experience pretty much echoes booklover6's. I love my Glo. If it broke today I'd replace it with another Glo. I am on firmware 2.8.1, patched with metazoa's patch (there is a thread about it here) and I don't turn on wireless. I use it only to read novels, so there really aren't any additional features that I need. I think the Glo has the best ergonomics of the current Kobo readers.

My essential features are that I can add fonts easily, and have margins closer to the side of the screen. The deal breaker is that it seems to have less screen problems than both paperwhites, which is a huge bonus.

OK! If you're a tweaker and you want to get your display just right (and are happy to put a little effort in to do so, if you're talking about top and bottom margins), then I agree this is a great way to go. Enjoy!

Love my glo. Use it daily. the ability to pick my font, margins, sharpness, etc is a treat. lighting is even and smooth and the scrolling feature, chapter timing and graph are all wonderful tools. If I lost this one I would buy another right away!

I love the Glo too. I've just decided to start again, and only use Calibre to manage the device, because I download all my books to it to manage, and then get confused about what I've bought from Kobo and can sync, what has been copied to my Calibre library, and what has come from elsewhere.
I've decided I'll just use Calibre. I'll miss the Kobo stats, but really they're just a silly little extra feature. If it died tomorrow (and it has played up a few times lately so I've worried about that), I'd buy it again. |

Thanks for your advice guys. The last Glo I had had slightly streaky yellow coloured lighting at the bottom, so i was a bit concerned. Has anyone got any thoughts on this?
