Office Depot and OfficeMax Merge

Office Depot and OfficeMax merged on 05 Nov to become Office Depot. No details yet on how this will impact individual stores. As a larger and stronger entity, I hope to see stronger competition in the technology sector.

With Black Friday right around the corner, will they be operating as their current entities or as the new combined one? And what kind of deals will they be offering? Last Aug, OM had 20% off coupons on all tablets and ereaders. I was able to get a 32GB Nexus 7.2 for only $216. I wonder if they'll be as aggressive for BF?

Not liking it.
Around here there is one of each on opposite ends of the same strip mall and no Staples nearby.
Both have been doing good business but one is bound to close. With my luck it'll be Office Max, the one with the good in-store ebook reader displays.
(Sigh)
Oh, well. At least Office Depot has better prices on home office furniture.

I never thought the market was big enough for three large retail office supply stores.

I don't have a Staples within 250 miles, so I fail to see how this will benefit consumers in my area. More than likely they will simply close stores that currently compete with each other.

A friend of mine who, works at the local Office Max, informed me back in June that Office Depot was in the process of buying Office Max. The local Office Max employees are concerned about their jobs since the two stores are across the street from each other.

In my parts we have more Staples and OD than OM...I can't see this locale being affected to much because the OM stores are few and far between

We have an OfficeMax here. And a Staples across it. I think they'll just close it. Another empty building.

The closest Office Max, or maybe it's an Office Depot I could never tell them apart, is 70 miles from where I live. It is just a block away from a WallyWorld, the only potential competition in the area, so I don't see the merger mattering.

I'm sorry to hear this. I prefer Office Max. They always had the lowest prices. I bought my wife's laptop from them and I bought my Nook HD+ from them (among lots of other stuff). Office Depot always has the highest prices. Guess I will start shopping at Staples. It's the closest one to my house anyway.

2 Office Depots, 2 Staples, 1 Office Max within 10 miles.
Take that out to 20 miles and the number probably quadruples
(The same 20 Miles would include at least 6 Costco)

The problem I had, was they all carried the same brands (and models).
I want the choices I used to get with: Sears vs Wards vs J.C. Penneys

I might as well order on the Internet where I can get different models and competitive prices.
