This is a multiple choice poll or survey designed to give us a comparison between your PW1 and PW2 screens. Please participate in this poll only if you have or had both the PW1 and PW2. If you have had multiple PW1s or PW2s just take an average of each for the sake of the survey.

I just found the poll. I must have checked in while you were setting it up. I voted PW 2013 much better than PW 2012 and neither of mine have defects other than the freeze I just encountered on my PW 2013. I had a couple of freezes on my PW 2012.

None of your poll statements mentioned freezes.

Yes, it did! I wanted to do a rather comprehensive survey to help those who are still on the wall decide if it is worth upgrading to the PW2 from the PW1.

You only mentioned cosmetic PERCEPTIONS in your poll. My unit just froze causing me to do a re-start. That is more serious than cosmetics and you did not even mention it.

Anyway, my PW 2012 also froze twice once causing me to call Amazon CS once to help me fix it.

If freezes become frequent, I'll exchange the unit of course. Rare intermittent freezes are tolerable.

There is nothing wrong with the PW 2012. I'm keeping it for my wife to use while I use the PW 2013. Both are good units but the 2013 unit has much better contrast.

See this link for a video of a 93 year old woman with Macular Degeneration who has been enabled to read for the first time in 10 years due to the excellence of the PW 2013. It is dated Oct. 4, 2013, under the 5 star reviews. It is entitled: "The Joy of reading RETURNS."

That video, ALONE, makes the PW 2013 a must buy for anyone who is growing older. Since using Kindles for the last 4 years I have avoided a cataract operation, never needed to use glasses and still have 20/20 vision in both eyes attributed by me to the KINDLES. All 4 of the eye doctors where I go ALL use Kindles and recommend them to their patients.

It will be interesting to see the spread on this.

Based on my PW1, my PW2 has: darker text, whiter on med/high light settings, darker on low light settings, less light shadows, less color blobs. Neither have pinholes and both have similar font thickness.

Based on the limited number of responses so far, I seem to be alone with my PW2 being darker than my PW1 at the same low light settings. Interesting, because both the original and replacement were like this.

Depending on vision/PW settings/environment everyone will see things differently, so as a whole, the results are quite meaningless.

May I add...on the PW1 screen, bottom of LEFT side, I and others had a 1" vertical light bleed.

My PW2 does not have it, BUT a couple posters mentionned having one on the RIGHT side.

Good point. My PW1 has light bleed on both bottom left & right but left is brighter. I also saw photos last year where some people had it at top. Of the 3 PW2s that I tried, 2 have it on the right side.

Wow. This poll kind of proves my point when it comes to the exacting demands of Mobileread readers. I was expecting two options: My PW2 is better than my PW1 and My PW2 is worse than my PW1!

Those should have been the only relevant questions. All the rest is perception, settings, ambient light and cosmetics.

Yes, my PW 2013 is better than my PW 2012 due to better contrast but both are great eReaders. When I use them, I only concentrate on the eBooks I am READING. I don't take 3 hours to closely examine the cosmetics.

The only key problem I would note would be MECHANICAL failures like freezes which this poll did not even address.
