docx-to-epub ToC woes

I'm new to this, but I've tried several different conversion methods and I *always* get errors related to the Table of Contents, specifically:
Quote:
ERROR: H:/file.epub/index_split_003.html(14,31): attribute "value" not allowed here; expected attribute "dir", "id" etc. etc.
So far in Calibre I've tried:
  • .html to .epub
  • .docx to .epub, with functioning docx Table of Contents
  • .docx to .epub, with Table of Contents inserted by hand in Calibre

I've already tried tweaking Calibre's interpretation of the ToC, and in addition to creating my own ToC in Calibre, Calibre itself verifies the ToC layout.

What gives?

Thanks for the reply. I looked through the thread, but I don't see that any solution to the "value" issue is offered. Obviously, I need to have a working table of contents.

Do you have an actual suggestion about how I can go about fixing this, and/or an alternate platform for conversions?

I see in this thread you've added a bit of code, but I'm not clear if this is added to an .epub file or is a modification to calibre or what's going on. I also don't know with what application one edits the actual .epub file.

Any further advice you can offer will be much appreciated!

What that bug report is saying is that the error message is not an actual error, it is just the epubcheck tool being stupid. So if your ToC is not working, then you have some other issue. Review the sticky post at the top of this forum for how to ask conversion questions.
