Okay, so this is trivial...
I am having a problem with a book that I have loaded onto my Kobo Auara HD. I have tried everything that I can think of to solve the problem. What is the problem you ask? The cover is a different size from all the other books on my Aura HD! It has a white border top and bottom.
I have reconverted to epub, and then I have used the modify epub as well. I have even re-downloaded the book. I have also taken the cover, re-sized it and then added the cover manually and still, it has these borders! It looks squashed! Am I missing something? I just can not figure out how to fix this. I know that it is trivial, but it really is aggravating! If anyone has a solution, I would greatly appreciate it! Thanks in advance! |

In Calibre, select the book, right click, select "Edit Metadata," then "Edit Metadata individually," then look for the "Trim Borders" button near the cover, and see if that does the trick.

The book may be adding a top/bottom margin or padding to the cover. If so there are two ways to fix it:
The easy way: Use Calibre to add the book to the device, but first configure the KoboTouch driver so that the "upload covers for books" box is ticked. (You may also want to tick the "keep cover aspect ratio" and "upload black and white covers" boxes while you are at it.) This will usually give the best results as it sends the image that you see in Calibre, rather than generating an image from the first page of the book. The other way: Edit the book using Calibre's Tweak Book function or some other method, and remove the top/bottom margin/padding. It is hard to explain exactly how to do this as there are a million different ways to code the cover image for an epub and each publisher seems to use a different method. Also, some people find that it is necessary to power off their reader after changing covers to get the new cover to show up. I haven't found that necessary with recent firmware, but it is something to try if things don't seem to work as expected. |

RobertJSawyer & GeoffR Thank you both for your suggestions. I must talk to my optermist as I just did not see the “trim borders” in the metadata. I tried it, but it still did not solve the problem. What did solve it was by powering off and then restarting! Thanks for that tip GeoffR! Who would have thought!
Thanks again to both of you! |
