Kindle dicrionary highlight isn't working with one book

Hi all,

I'm reading this book and I've noticed that I can't get any dictionary definitions from it. I've tried hovering in front of it, actually pressing the button and getting to the options, but Full Definition isn't even an option. This only happens in this new book I'm reading, it works fine with others.

Does anyone know what it could be? This is a pretty hard book to read so having a dictionary would be most helpful.

EDIT: Spelled dictionary wrong in title, damn. And I have the kindle 4 (the gray one)

Do you have a dictionary on your device? My HDX took 3 days to finally download a dictionary. On the PW 2013 one must select his dictionary.

I do. The New American English dictionary is selected. It all works on other books, just not this one I'm reading. It's very weird.

I'm wondering if this is one of the dreaded scanned books rather than one with flowing text. If it is a scanned book and you are seeing images of pages rather than flowing text, then that might be the issue.

A likely explanation is that the language of the book is not set to "English" in its metadata.

This was it. The language was set to Russian for some strange reason.
