Query about Image Size

Hi!

From what I have read, it appears that best way to include inside images in EPUB e-books is to include images that are already sized for display, rather than re-sizing the images using HTML/CSS.

So, what are the image sizes for most Nooks? For most Kindles?

Given that the Voyage is going to be a high resolution device with a resolution of 1430 x 1080 and you want to make the images to be the resolution of the screen, you'll need to have large images. Also, the Kobo Aura H2O has the same resolution. Then there are tablets with high resolution as well as computer screens. So don't size the images to fit 800x600 as that will make them too small on higher resolution screens. Even the PW2 has 1024x758 resolution.

Seems to me that there may be a need for two versions, hi res and low res. The low res do not need giant files which will make it slow, nor the color either. Tablets and newer machines can benefit from these. I don't think one size fits all, especially if the screen is significantly larger. No reason to leave out pull quotes and inserts which are all but impossible on smaller devices and are more visually attractive.

But the bigger the screen the less sense there is in reflowable text anyway, since the text size can be made more or less normal, it seems to me.

Thank you for your reply.

I understood 1430 X 1080 to be the Kindle Voyage's screen size and 300 PPI to be the resolution.

I also understood that how images are displayed is contingent on the resolution (PPI), not the screen size.

Am I wrong?

Depends on whether you want the image to fill the screen.
