eBook "A Game of Thrones" crashes Paperwhite

Since upgrading to my Kindle Paperwhite 2nd Gen, I have a strange problem concerning the ebook A Game of Thrones: The Story Continues Books 1-5.
This ebook only causes my Paperwhite to freeze constantly, e.g. when turning a page, accessing my notes, or just going back to the home menu. One time it even rebooted.
I've already deleted it and sent it again via wifi, I also tried sending it via USB, I deleted the whole index-folder of the Paperwhite so it would create a new one. Nothing works, it keeps crashing.
However, I don't think the hardware is to blame, as this is the only ebook that troubles me.

Is there anything else I can do except resetting the whole device?

Where did you get this copy of A Game of Thrones: The Story Continues Books 1-5? What is the original format? Are you using Calibre to do any sort of converting?

I bought it directly from Amazon (.de) and got it from the Cloud, I didn't mess with it in any way.

That book's gotta be huuuuge. Just put the book on and then let it charge overnight before trying to use the device at all.

There still might be something wrong with it, but give that puppy some quiet time to get indexed before you go investigating any further.

I looked into that, too. It gets indexed in about 20 minutes, after that time it appears in the search results...

Other books, even bigger ones like the english Bible, don't cause any problems like that.

I suggest you return it to Amazon and see if you can get this bundle...

Call Amazon CS and get your PW 2013 replaced. I doubt if any eBook would do that. Have you tried to read the eBook on a different Kindle?

One more possibility is to hold the power button for 60 seconds to do a complete reboot. That usually clears technical problems with the device firmware.

Unfortunately this collection is not yet available in Germany and rather expensive if bought individually.

Amazon just called me back, signed my PW off and on again and sent me the book again, which is supposed to solve the problem, I'll see if it does...

Well, now I resetted the device because it keeps crashing and it showed a software error after the first reboot. So it's going back to Amazon...

I just tried it out on my second Paperwhite 2013, the one I wanted to give back before I noticed the errors on my new one.
It crashed instantly after I tried to go from "A Game of Thrones" back to the home menu. You've got to be kidding me

Is there anyone here who owns a PW 2013 and and this ebook? My old Paperwhite didn't have any problems with this book... I really don't know what to do right now, get a third Paperwhite? Why would both devices procude errors with the same ebooK?

I'd suggest loading it into Calibre (you'll need to have "the tools" installed, too), and converting to ePub and back to Mobi again. It sounds like it's a problem with the book, and converting it will probably fix it.

The problem with that is, I don't get to use cloud features etc. with it. Which is really annoying, because I paid money for it.
I asked Amazon for a refund of the eBook, they have to talk that over with their superiors, I hope I'll get it and then I'll buy the single book editions, even if they're more expensive.

Surely being able to read it is the most important factor? It's worth a go at least - what have you got to lose by trying?

I use the Send to Kindle PC program to send books to my Kindle and check the save to archive (or whatever it's called) box so I can read on various devices. Not sure if there's a file size limitation because as was said that file must be humongous!

That's a very pragmatic point of view
If I just wanted to read it, I could download it off the Internet. But especially for a fantasy saga of 6.000 pages, features like X-Ray and bookmarks are really helpful and I don't want to miss them. I think that is understandable.
Maybe I'll try it later, just to see if this fixes the problem.

The file size is about 7 megabytes. The english Bible has more than 12 megabytes and works perfectly fine. So it can't be the file size alone...

Amazon just refunded me the money for "A Game of Thrones", I'll by one of the single books now and see if there are any problems - even if they're more expensive I hope there won't be any more problems now.
