Calibre & Kindle highlighting

I would like to be able to import my Kindle highlights into Calibre. But, when I do the fetch annotations, all of the paragraph formatting goes away, just like there is no paragraph formatting in the Kindle "my clippings" file. Is there any way that I could import highlights into Calibre and still have the paragraph formatting?

You might want to try the Annotations plugin. From memory, it does a better job with the formatting, but I haven't tried it with a Kindle.

I did try the annotations plugin. That retrieved all of the clippings. But, unfortunately, it didn't keep any of the paragraph formatting. So, I was hoping there was something else out there that might.

Alternatively, do you know of any way that I can get Calibre to recognize the Kindle MBP files? If I could get Calibre to be able to just highlight the passages that I highlighted in the Kindle, then I could easily use cut and paste from Calibre. Cut and pasting from Calibre's reader does retain the formatting.

Are you talking about the formatting of the selected text? If so, it probably is lost. It would depend on how that is copied from the book to the annotations storage on the device. I know the Kobo devices just copy the text. It wouldn't surprise me if the other devices did the same.

As to getting the annotations to the calibre viewer, it isn't currently possible. The viewer doesn't support annotations in the same way. Plus it needs someone to write the code to translate the devices annotations to something the viewer understands.
