FINALLY!!!!!!
I am excited to announce that after over a year and a half of trying to land the job I love I have finally managed to do so. I attend school as a psychology major and will be getting my associates in justice studies. I have obtained a job in a residential setting for youths/adolescents, not only for addiction treatment but also the treatment for psychiatric mental disorders. It doesn't pay much but everyone has to start somewhere right? I hope I'm not jinxing myself (knocking on wood) but I'm extremely excited about this opportunity and thought I'd share. For those of you that was there when I lost my job in June of last year and told me not to give up hope, thank you-I never did.
And although I'm ridiculously behind on my rent and all my other bills I have to say it was worth it. I'd rather wake up and be excited about going to work, as opposed to waking up and my first thought being,"D^mn, I have to work today." I used to cut myself in 7th grade. I became a drug addict for 10 years and with the help of my now ex-boyfriend, I got my life together. I've been able to accomplish things that if you would have asked me then where I see myself in 5 years I would have told you dead. Thank you, to everyone that supported me and told me things would work out. It means a great deal to me. I have fought hard to try and live a functional life and feel it's finally paying off. I also managed to get a volunteer opportunity at a shelter for victims of domestic violence. It's a good feeling to know that while we are not all "friends" in the "normal" sense I have support. Thank you all so, so much. |

Congratulation!
I hope this job will give you fullfilment and I think that your personal history will help you a lot and is some kind of a plus point when working in the field of addiction treatment. Make the best of this opportunity! |

I did jinx it!!! I was supposed to start on the 5th but they hired one of their old employees back. Grrrrr! Lol, thank you for your support though. I was pretty devastated until a friend of mine told me some news that was truly devastating. I hope his situation resolves in a positive way, and I will keep trying and fighting to make my dream come true. He reminded me I still have that chance, while his dream may become a nightmare he never saw coming.

Well, that's a bummer. Try to keep a positive attitude. And good luck to you and your friend.

Did you get up in the morning and actively go out and knock on doors for a job, or did you apply for jobs strictly on the internet?.. curious? most people who knock on doors usually get a job faster..

I applied for the job on the internet, it came through one of the career board thingy's I'm signed up for. In this field I'm basically trying to jump the gun, getting a job before I even have my degree but at the same time, if you look for jobs in the psychology field it's quite ironic; most want you to have a bachelor's degree and 1-3 years of experience. I have a CDCA and I've applied for jobs where that was necessary but you only needed a HS diploma and then....wait for it....1+ years of experience. Really? It's ridiculous, how hard it is to break into the field. Many places don't accept volunteers anymore either, they want interns; my school doesn't have an internship for a bachelor's. For your master's, definitely.

I'd love to act against it but basically they were hiring many people and were at the end of the hiring phase. Lol, plus I barely have enough to pay my rent, much less hire a lawyer. I'm disappointed but at the end of the day maybe it's the universe's way of telling me there's another plan for me. The job was what I wanted but the distance was great; maybe in 6 months I'll be offered a job locally doing the same thing or something comparable. I'm just sad that I was willing to go through so much to obtain this job and it's no longer there. The kids that are there, they didn't grow up wealthy in love or support, and they're as young as 11 years old. I wanted to make a difference for them. I am upset about the fact it seems this guy was pushed through the process much faster than I was, but I can't do anything to prove it. *sigh* Thank you for the advice though.
