Adding body style to Extra CSS does nothing
Hi
I'm adding body {margin-left: -20px; margin-right:-20px } to Extra CSS in conversion dialog. However, this seems to be ignored by calibre. I explode the azw3 file and look through the CSS and see nothing. How do I get around this (other than manual editing) (If you are wondering why, I want to reduce the blank left right margins in kindle pw.) Thanks |

To set page margins you use the margins settings under Page layout in the conversion dialog.

Thanks, Kovid. I tried that; it does not accept negative values.

Negative page margins are not supported.

Would you consider allowing raw CSS (bypass processor) to be apoended or prepended to CSS file?

That wont help you, since calibre explicitly overrides the body margins to be what is set in the page layout settings. In any case, setting negative page margins on body is a fragile hack that may or may ot work depending on the reding device. If you want to move text closer to page edges use negative margins on paragraphs/divs instead.

Not in this instance, no. But there are times when I think it's useful to be able to attach raw CSS and not have calibre try to process it. I feel like I'm fighting calibre sometimes

calibre is not designed to edit books, it is designed to convert them and that conversion is designed to generate the best possible results visually, for the widest possible range of inputs. For fine control, you really need to be using a book editing tool to edit your input document to the way you want it, and then convert.
