Calibre recognizes iBooks, but stopped sending books

Since about a week Calibre does recognize iBooks, but stopped sending books. When trying to send it give the errormessage:

I'm running version 1.7.0 of Calibre and installed the latest version of the iOs reader applications 1.2.1. This plugin installs twice, for some reason, but I configured both. (if I delete one, they both disappear).

I can add books in iBooks by sending the epub to desktop, dragging them into iTunes and synchronize, but Calibre used to do it directly. So; it is not a huge problem but one I would like to resolve.
I would appreaciate any suggestions.

edit: I'm using the iPad1 and iTunes 5.1.1.

  • Exit calibre
  • Disconnect all iDevices from your computer
  • Restart calibre
  • Configure the iOS reader applications plugin for iBooks as described in the iOS reader applications thread
  • Exit calibre
  • Connect your iPad
  • Restart calibre
If the problem persists, create an issue in the plugin's issue tracker. Follow the directions in issue #1 to create a debug log, and include the contents of your debug log.

Thank you, G.Riker, I tried that a few times, but perhaps I missed something so I'll try it again.
I had a good thing going with Calibre and iBooks. But since last week Calibre didn't send books to my iPad any more, although it showed my books on the iPad. I reinstalled the iBooks app, but that didn't help.

So I wanted to use Marvin on my iPad....heard it was better than iBooks. I deleted and reinstalled the plugins for it as described in Mobile Read. When I clicked in the Marvin app on the cloud-symbol to make a connection with Calibre, the Marvin icon appeared there, but the pop-up screen for making that selection wouldn't go away in my opened Marvin app.

That's when I decided to give iBooks a second chance.

The calibre connector dialog remains on your iPad screen until you dismiss it. Once you've started the calibre connector in Marvin and configured calibre with Marvin as your preferred iOS reader application, you should be able to see Marvin as your connected Device in calibre.

In addition to the information in the sticky about configuring the iOS reader applications plugin, you might find this Marvin blog entry providing an overview of using Marvin with calibre useful.

Thank you GRiker for the help. I will try all things out in the next few days, especially the Marvin app about which I read good things. It'll be alright.

Do you perhaps also still have the Annotations plugin installed? Your mention about the iOS Reader Application showing twice sounds familair, and since you mention also having Marvin, if Marvin XD is installed you need to remove the Annotations plugin I think to get rid of the double entry in the plugin list.

And you state iTunes 5.1.1. ??? I hope that is a typo? Because it might just be part of the reason if it is truly version five. And like GRiker already eplained, the connector popup needs to stay open so that the plugin has exclusive access to the Marvin library because from that point on, you are managing your Marvin library directly from within Calibre/Marvin XD, otherwise things could potentially go bump if both you and the plugin are making changes in the library (of whatever nature)

Yes! Marvin works fine, though I'll miss my iBooks 'bookcase'. But from what I've read, Marvin has way more possibilities so that's alright.

What I didn't get was that I had to disconnect Calibre on the Marvinapp first, before I could begin to read (obviously). I can send my books from Calibre to Marvin now, without any problems and still not to iBooks any more. But that's no problem as I wanted to change reading apps anyway.

Thank you again for your time, GRiker.

Yes, it is a typo....should be iOs 5.1.1.
I have not installed Marvin XD as yet, but I will. Thank you for the advice about the Annotations plugin.
But I think something is wrong with iBooks, as it gives me 10 of the same books when synchronizing, among other things. So I'll stay with Marvin now I understand it's principle of the connector popup (and Goodreader).
