Kindle & The Walking Dead

I know next to nothing about the kindles or comics in general. But I enjoy the walking dead and was wondering if anyone reads them on a kindle. Thought this might be a better way to catch up and read them. Do you need a certain model for graphic novels (I assume some don't display color)? Can you rent the novel like through a library service? Is there some kind of subscription so you don't miss on new releases?

Thanks in advance for any thoughts.

For the most part, e-ink readers are black-n-white only (the tech exists for color e-ink, but it's still in its infancy). If you wish to read color graphic novels in color, you'll need a tablet. If the graphic novel is in black-n-white (or you don't care if you read it in black-n-white), an e-ink reader will be fine.

If you go to the product page and click "available only on these devices," you'll get a list of compatible Amazon/Kindle devices. I probably wouldn't read a graphic novel on my Paperwhite, since the 6" screen would shrink the images down quite a bit.

Checking Kindle books out from the library is simple, but availability of any particular book will be up to your individual library. Your library might even have e-readers for you to borrow.

You'll want to check out the ComiXology app for use on color tablets.

The Walking Dead is a black and white comic, so color doesn't matter for that particular series. The only e-ink device the series is available for is the Paperwhite (either generation), and it should be available on all Fires. It is published the same as the paperback volumes, so you won't always be immediately caught up. The volumes collect 6 issues each.

I have never encountered a library that lets you borrow such titles in electronic format. But that doesn't mean they don't exist. I would check with your local library.

Text would be too small on an e-ink device or any 7" tablet. On a standard iPad or android tablet with a 9.7 inch screen it is perfect, no need to zoom to read text.

The paperwhite offers panel view, though. So there's that.

I bought an 8.9" KF HD just to read WD comics. Now I have an HDX, and look forward to reading the newest compilation as soon as the price goes down a bit.

I've read the first 8 volumes of The Walking Dead on 7" Fires quite comfortably.
