iLiad not reading 2 GB Kingston SD

Hello!

I have just received my battery-upgraded iLiad back a few days ago, and after a long time not using it i decided to give it a try again.

After inserting the SD card, i noticed that the device won't read it. I read on some threads, and i inserted it into a card reader into the usb port. It works fine. The card is FAT32 formatted.

Now the thing is that i dont remember if the card worked before i sent it back to iRex for battery replacememt, as i copied over the files from a 1 GB sd card to the new 2 GB one i got.
I tried to read files from the old 1 GB SD, but it wouldnt work (it worked before i sent it for battery replacement)

Any suggestions to what I should do?

Thanks!

The iLiad doesn't support SD cards at all. Some SD cards <= 1GB are MMC compatible, which is what the iLiad supports. So you 2GB SD Card cannot work.

But I don't know why the 1GB SD card doesn't work now, which did before (I guess its a MMC compatible)

I put in the old 1 GB SD card in, and rebooted. It works. I guess i have to reboot every time i change the card in it.

Dammit....i didnt realize that cards bigger than 1 GB wont work...i thought it was only cards bigger than 4 GB!!

Now i have 2, 2 GB SD cards that are pretty much useless!!

You could sell them in the "Flea Market" forum. They'd be of use to owners of a Sony or Gen3, for example. You really want a CF card for the iLiad - it has no capacity limits, and it's the only memory card that you can reflash your iLiad from.

Get yourself a CF card. You will be amazed at the difference in transfer rate between and SD card and a CF card on the Iliad.

Transfer rates zoom with the CF card, the speed is the same as putting data in internal memory, unlike the wait with the SD card.

I have this 4 GB baby on mine, not bad for $19.99.

I had thought this too. I've found that if I swap in a SD card and try to read it right away, it'll appear empty. But if I wait a little bit after inserting the card, it'll be readable. I think it just takes a minute for the iLiad to recognize and mount the card.

Officially, SD cards are not supported at all. However, most SD cards that are 1GB or less will still work.

The 4GB limit you're thinking of is for CF cards. In that case, only 4GB CF cards are "officially" supported. Larger sizes will still work, but the iLiad will only show them as being 4GB (it will still use the full capacity though).

Is that true?? I thought there was a 4GB limit on the CF card, or is it just that that was the maximum size available when the Iliad was released?

AFAIK the iLiad will use any size CF card (I'm sure someone will confirm). There's a bug in the navigator thingy about reporting the amount of free space on a card >4GB (it obviously uses 32-bit arithmetic for its calculations), but that's just cosmetic.
