Synching via Cloud...Multiple Downloads ?
I just received my iPad Mini yesterday.
After setting up I plugged it into my pc and installed some stuff off my existing iTunes library by drag and drop. I then downloaded something from iTunes Store to my pc, which is set to manual synching. I noticed that it was also being downloaded direct to my iPad. Would this be via the iCloud Synching ? Does this mean that what I just downloaded was in fact downloaded over the Internet twice, once to my pc and also to my iPad ? As I have a download limit on my Internet, if this is so then iCloud Synching could be bad news for some ! Last edited by mXb; 11-16-2013 at 06:39 AM. |

On the iPad, go to Settings, iTunes and disable Automatic Downloads (Music, Apps, Books, Updates).

iCloud seems a good idea, and is ok for small downloads, or if you are on an unlimited service. However for large downloads like the one I did of around a GB, downloading them twice when you have monthly download limits is something to be mindful of. I spoke to an Apple tech and they don't seem to have considered this aspect of iCloud Synching ? |

It could well be iCloud syncing if it's a new iDevice and the user signed in to their Apple account upon their first use of the new device, asking (perhaps unintentionally) for a previous device backup to be "restored" on the new device.

I was abandoned by Apple Support and told to contact the App developer. After various of the developers suggestions didn't work I tried something myself and it now works. It would seem that although I made the In-App Purchase from my iPad Mini, as I had made the initial download of the App to my pc, I had to "tell" iTunes Store that I wanted the App to work on my iPad and to therefore apply the In-App Purchase to the iPad. Sounds complicated but took a few seconds of taps on 3 "Yes" buttons ! .....after 3 days of messing around getting nowhere. |
