Old newspapers no longer deleting

I have just moved from a Kindle Keyboard to a Kindle Touch. Previously downloaded newspapers older than 3 days disappeared automatically. They now stay indefinitely leading to a huge build up. The Calibre setting to delete downloaded news older than 3 days is still ticked. Do you possibly have a solution?

Works for me, I checked my calibre library and there are no news downloads older than 60 days (which is what I have my setting at).

Make sure your downloads have author calibre and the tags News

Both of those are needed for deletion to work. Also the tag News has to be in the language of your calibre UI if it is not English. So, fo example, in german it would have to Nachrichten

I am just using standard newspapers from Calibre. Would they already have those attributes?

Good morning again Kovid. I am still having the problem of backissues building up on my Kindle Touch. None of them have been deleted. I have checked the settings - keep at most 2 issues and delete downloaded news older than 2 days. Is there anything else I should try?

calibre only deletes old news from within its own library. It never deletes files from readers automatically and it has never done that.

IIRC some models of Kindle have an auto-archive facility that causes old issues of periodicals to be automatically archived. However, that has various caveats and doesn't work very reliably. For example if you send periodicals via email, Amazon auto-converts them to personal docs and they wont auto archive.
