trouble with document in Kindle Fire

I have several documents containing text, jpg, and gif images. They were created using Open Office and have odt file extension. I can load these from my computer into calibre with no problem. When I connect my Kindle Fire 1st generation and in calibre autoconvert the documents, they have azw3 file extensions. Checking how they look within Calibre, everything looks OK. Then I send them using a USB cable to my computer - using Windows 8. After disconnecting from the KF and looking at the results, all is OK except the gif images have no animation at all ! They looked fine on Calibre, but somehow lost their motion when transferred to the Kindle Fire. I know the KF can handle gif images by themselves since I can look at examples on the internet using the KF browser. What went wrong ?

The ebook viewer and the browser are very different. Just because the browser supports animation does not imply that the ebook viewer does as well.
