They come in cute colors. Can't argue about that.

The HP seems kind of heavy considering it's a Chromebook without HDD.

I'm interested in the Asus Chromebox. Waiting for specs.

My Windows PC with a Haswell processor easily lasts 8-9 hours, so these definitely are a big deal for mobile devices. Probably doubled the battery life over the old version.

I haven't seen any prices mentioned as yet but I fear this may be the killer for those looking for a cheapish cloud based alternative to netbooks.

Well I may join my wife as a Chromebook user for "personal use" if the new hardware meets my expectations.
Toshiba is in the mix now also. I want a guaranteed 8 plus hours from the battery. (Not considering Video.) 10 would be better. I envy the Mac Air user the battery life he gets. An excellent screen but it doesn't have to be retina or IPS. A small HHD but perhaps also a quick small SSD. (What would be really great would be being able to just choose to run on the SSD alone for some uses, with no fan, minimum heat, faster, and extended battery life. My biggest quandary is choosing between an 11.6" or a 14" screen. The 12.1" the old Samsung Series 5 had would be ideal, but I haven't seen that option lately. And finally the DRIVING FORCE for my wanting to make a switch, at least in my personal life, is the ability to tell Microsoft "get lost." |

I can't wait for the next generation of chips from Intel. The Broadwell ones are said to provide another 30% improvement in power consumption.

Could be, but it looks more like plastic to me. More than 4# is more like a 17.6" giant laptop than an easy to carry netbook. I have a hard time predicting success for this device, but it might be that the colors carry the day.

I arrived at the store and was told they'd just sold the last black model. So much for my relationship with Sprint. Immediately, I checked every other provider and found that the best deal on an S4 and monthly service was with MetroPCS (which currently uses the T-Mobile network as well as their own, but only for that white S4). Since the only model they carried/supported was white, I sucked it up (as it were) and bought one off-contract for a hundred dollars less than I'd have paid anywhere else. Whereupon I returned to my new (and predominantly white) digs, where I was informed by my painter girlfriend that white was a terrific color and just as neutral as black. I bought a Spiga Neo-Hybrid case in white and black at her urging and now know exactly what she means. I'd still choose black over white in most cases, but, when paired with the correct design and texture, white no longer reminds me of dentists, hospitals, doilies and sanitary napkins. I don't know if they have 19" ones or larger ones these days or not. Anyway, he puts a lot of stuff on the screen for his work, and wants it all up there at once for cross referencing and cut and paste. I have suggested he put more memory into the current machine but he hasn't seemed to need that yet. I find it wonderful to watch my kids at work with all the new tools that we parents didn't even dream of when we were their age. |
