And why is it that you cannot convert these yourself?
For us (or anyone else) to convert them and redistribute the converted works, would be a copyright violation. I don't think you want to be encouraging that. Why not just point directly at their mobile edition instead? Last edited by hacker; 09-08-2004 at 03:28 PM. |

i didn't know that i don't see the difference between that site, and the (many) others that are discussed here on the same forum ... (NYT or Slate for instance) Quote:
what i'm talking about is the complete printed edition what you mention has a complete different content i'm already a subscriber of the printed international (European) edition, but that's an abridged one that doesn't include all the articles of the US' that's why i was interested ![]() PS : Quote:

I agree with ignatz. Arnaud, it is not so easy to make a non-mobile page print-friendly. You would have to scrape the content, e.g. with Sitescooper or your own little Perl/PHP script, strip the parts you don't want, plus reformat everything to take the small PDA screen into account. Have you already looked at Sitescooper?

Arnaud I can really recommend Sitescooper for these kinds of tasks. Don't hesitate to ask questions here if you get stuck trying it!

I agree with that. Sitescooper's great, but it is technical. Look in the sitescooper forums on this site and you'll get assistance. Also: the sitescooper mailing list (mostly dead now) at http://www.mail-archive.com/sitescooper-talk@taint.org/. I have had USA Today as a channel for sitescooper in the past, but I haven't used it for some time, so I would probably have to update it. I'll do that later in the year, when I've got time. Sitescooper is very time consuming, because the site files you make have to be 100% right, or they don't work. Anyway, there should be more than enough to keep you going from the files I've already posted. The hardest thing is getting sitescooper up and running, in my experience. In total, I've probably spent 150 hours with sitescooper since I installed it last November. But it is worth it, if you want to read real content on your Palm.
