Choice of fonts.
The PW 2013 offers a choice of 6 fonts: Baskerville, Caecilia, Caecilia Condensed, Future, Helvetica and Palatino.
I've settled on Helvetica. I have noticed Baskerville is very light and that may have been the font used by many reporting light fonts since it is the first on the list. Palatino also seems light. To obtain maximum contrast, the darkest fonts would be best. Which font do you use? |

I personally love the Palatino font and have been using it since I purchased my Paperwhite 2012 on the 2nd smallest setting and never had any issues with contrast or readability. I think I will continue using it with my Paperwhite 2013 due to arrive in a few days.

Caecilia...
To me the Caecilia font is why I buy Kindles. I like the thickness and blackness.
San Serif fonts are for advertising copy and do not work for me for long term reading of text. Palatino is optimized for CRT/LCD screens is not as comfortable for me on E-Ink. All just my opinions, of course. ![]() |

When I still had my PW2 I was using Caecilia. I doubt I would have ever switched from it as the others I don't care for too much.

I use Caecilia Condensed on my Touch even though I like Caecilia better. I use Caecilia Condensed because the Kindle doesn't hyphenate well, if at all, so the condensed font seems to leave fewer large gaps between words, that is, puts more words on each line. On my iPhone and iPad I use Caecilia. There is no Caecilia Condensed in the iOS app.

None. I don't like the looks of any of the stock fonts.

Just got my PW2 a couple days ago. I'm switching between Caelcilia, Caelcilia Condensed, and Palatino right now. I think I'll eventually end up with Caelcilia as my font of choice. That is unless/until someone finds a way to add your own fonts to the PW2. I'd love to be able to have different fonts--but not enough to re-convert all my books with embedded fonts.

With regard to fonts, my absolute favorite is still my self-created DejaVu Serif Fat. To be honest, while I *can* read with all of the Kindle fonts in all sizes from 1 to 4, except for Futura (*very* bad redability, IMHO), I like none of them. I like Palatino best, but even that one is not perfect. (It should have been 30% fatter.) |

I also use Caecilia, but would like more weight to it.

More weight... to Caecilia?
The font would then only consist of black square blocks I think ![]() Last edited by Katsunami; 10-06-2013 at 06:34 PM. |

Lol! I mean darker, black instead of grey. What do you expect from a manufacturing software coder, I know little about fonts just what my eyes need to read comfortably. I was using a font modified by JS Wolf on my PW1.

"More weight" would mean that the lines are thicker; the font would be bolder (fatter), which is... almost impossible to do with Caecilia I think ![]() What you'd need is more contrast. Does ambient light in your environment have any effect on this? On my Kindle, Caecilia is very thick and very black. |
