order placed before latest delay - still no sign of it, any ideas? :(

Hi all,

New to the forum and eink readers - I decided to go for the cybook as I think it looks far better than the other offerings (such as the kindle) however I must say I am not too impressed with Bookeen thus far sadly.

I placed my order on the 16th March - the website said that "orders would ship in 1 to 4 days". Of course my money was taken immediately

Anyway, I now see the site tells us that due to high demand orders placed now wont be until May...

Since I ordered before this latest delay announcement I thought my order would ship as stated - in 1 to 4 days at that time.

Well time has passed so I tried to email them (twice) to ask the very same question - so far no response at all.

I am tempted to cancel the order since the sony is about to go sale here for £60 less.... however, since bookeen wont respond to my emails and they already have my money I am not even sure I can cancel!

I am hoping someone might have something positive to say regarding the order process? Anyone order around the 16th March and actually get a shipping note?

The 16th March was a Sunday - and then we've just had Easter. Give them until they're back at work tomorrow, at least .

Don't cancel: firstly because the Gen3 really is a heck of a lot better than the Sony, feature-wise, and secondly, because nobody actually KNOWS whether or not the Sony is going to be released in the UK or not. All we have is an unsubstantiated rumour.

I wouldn't cancel until you actually have the Sony Reader in your hands. Right now we don't know for sure that it will be available.

Well its on play.com for preorder but yeah - good point about it being Easter. I will definately hang on a while since the Cybook does hit all the right notes for me and the sony is well...er ugly

I just wish they would reply to emails is all - but yeah, maybe they all had extended easter breaks

The reason I've opted not to attempt to acquire a Cybook is because Bookeen gives all the appearance of 5 guys in a garage somewhere. Say what you will about Sony (and there is plenty negative to say), they are an actual company. I can walk into a retail location, look at one, buy it, and walk out. If something goes wrong, I go right back into the store. Granted, I'm in the US, but for me the Sony is the only eInk-based ebook I can actually purchase through a "normal" buying experience. Plus, it's significantly less expensive than the Cybook and the Kindle.

March Cybook order & No response to phone call

I ordered,(and of course paid up front like everyone else), on March 7,08.
My order number was 1245X. My shipping date was March 17-21, which came & went. No responses to email, FedEX alternate tracking was of no help.
Apparently Bookeen's phone number is not under their name. The number I did have is not being answered.

Anyone else have any luck?

If it were almost any other actual company than Sony, I'd agree.

I called FedEX, if anyone who already has received their Cybook retained the FedEX shipping tags and can post Bookeens's account number we can use FedEX's alternate shipping reference page to track to our zip codes her in the USA.

Yes, I think that's exactly what they are; iRex are too. Doesn't make them "bad" companies, and Bookeen have been in this business a heck of a lot longer than either Sony or Amazon.

Weren't you just saying elsewhere that you think that the iLiad is the best device on the market? Doesn't the fact that iRex are a small company (who have had far worse customer support issues than Bookeen - take a look at the "Battery Replacement" thread when you have some spare time) equally put you off them?

Jeeez, this does not sound good at all :-( I think its really out of order that they take your money before theres any hint of the item being shipped.

Personally I will give it another few days and if I have heard nothing I am going to cancel (using their email address which no-one replies to of course! ) and just contact my credit card company to persue them for the money.

*sigh* so much for my first foray into e-ink readers...

Yes, to both parts of your question.

No need to be defensive, Harry. I'm not belittling Cybook owners. Small companies have challenges, and it's up to each individual to decide how that factors into their purchase decision.

Unfortunately it does seem to be symptomatic of small companies to be better at the "technical stuff" than at providing the basics of customer support, on occasions .

I found this interesting tidbit on the Bookeen Official Blog :

Ok,,now I'm leaving message here cause noone answers for my email.
It is delivery problem, I cound't get any of notification. Also no answer mail from bookeen.
I have your email commented that I was supposed to get them on March 14. But nothing has shipped from nowhere. Although Ive sent more than 7 email through contact@ and shop@, it's been 5 days waiting for your answer, nothing comes back. Please bookeen, it's easy to look up your email-box and check my cybook's state. You have to know that I'am very disappointed at your vacant words and manner to your customer. Please send me back your best answer. I want to get my thing that I paid for!

Regard,
YJ

Dear Customer,

Please don't use the blog as a mean for customer support.
Send your request to support@bookeen.com and we will do our best to serve you.

Don't worry, you should get your order before the end of the week.

Regards,

Michael

Maybe there is hope for those of us who received information on shipping dates. It's interesting that "Michael" would answer in that forum but the company will not respond to customers emails.

Regards to all,
