It looks like Barnes&Noble is having another sale. I use my ereaders for just that, reading. Now the Nook simple touch with glowlight is on sale for $79 whereas the Nook Hd is on lale for $109. I like the glowlight for reading outside and its battery life, but I like the Nook hd because it has access to the google store and can download other reading apps, plus dropbox, etc. Whichever I choose, I would use it mainly for reading....not games etc.
So I am looking for a bit of advice...opinions...on what other members here think is the best option to buy. I would appreciate any thought on this. |

In my opinion, go for the Nook HD for $109. That's a great price for a new device. If you want to use a lot of apps, get the 16gb for $119. It would be well worth it. The Nook HD is a perfect ereader. Even outdoors I find it quite readable, just turn the brightness all the way up. An anti-glare screen protector is a good investment, too, because the screen is very shiny.
Rumor has it new models will be released in the next week or two. So I would hold off on buying the Simple Touch with or without Glowlight. Paid $149 for my daughter's 16gb ND last July....darn it! |

I bought the Nook HD for simply a reading device and am quite impressed with it. I have an iPad for other purposes. The HD is far superior to my first generation Nook Color. I also like the software setup better than my Kindle Fire.
I also have a Nook Glow which I do not use as much as my Kindle Paperwhite. However, I think a second generation of the Glow has good potential for improvements. I am anxiously waiting to see what they will offer which could be sometime in October. I wouldn't buy the current generation and would wait a few weeks more if you decide you want an e-ink reader. |

After a year of reading off a tablet - an iPad - I bought a Nook Glow when they were going cheap. For general reading of epubs it is excellent and I am very pleased I got it. In terms of weight, convenience, ease of use and battery life it's excellent. It's still rubbish for most pdfs and all journal articles though.

If the main purpose would be reading, then I'd go with the glowlight. Only when you need email, browsing and such is a tablet better. I do almost all my reading on the nook glow, it's far better than any tablet for that purpose, and its battery life is on a different league altogether.

Just remember, if you decide to go the Nook tablet route, whatever new device they come out with will likely be selling at a 40% discount within 6 to 8 months!
Their ereaders don't seem to suffer nearly as bad. Early adopters beware. |

I agree with the penguin. If all you want to do is read, you're better off with the Glow. It fits better in your pocket and the battery lasts a long time.
I don't play games on my HD+, but I do watch a lot of movies and check my email occasionally. The HD+ has a larger screen that's great for reading magazines also (7" screens aren't real great for that). If you plan on doing more than reading, the HD or HD+ would be a great choice. |

I do most of my reading on a Kindle PW but also have a Nook HD+. I love the 9" screen for reading magazines and PDF's, and for watching videos. In my opinion, for the price it's still the best choice for those who want a large screen tablet.

Both the regular SimpleTouch and Glowlight version run a modified Android 2.1 underneath the ebook reading software, with a little effort you can root it and install regular Android apps on it.
When I read that the Glowlight had been reduced to £49 in the UK and knowing it ran Android, I had to pick one up and see what I could do with it. So far I have rooted it with NookManager installed an old version of Google Market (the old name for Google Play Store), installed the Kindle app from the market, and a version of the Kobo app that works (the latest version doesn't). It is a bit of work to get a nicely working setup, but if you are willing spend some time on it, you get a eink device that can read ebooks from whoever you want to buy them from. If you want the flexibility, but don't want to put the effort in then go with the tablet. I already have a Nexus 7 tablet myself, but I wanted a dedicated eink reader (I did get a Kobo Mini last year, but broke it and decided my next one had to be one with a built in light.) |

Well....I took a trip to our local Barnes&Noble store. Their sale was too much to pass up and I bought the Nook HD. The 16gb version sold for $119. Seems like a fantastic deal to me!!
I will be mostly reading on it, but I do like that I can add some apps that I use, such as docs to go, color note, dropbox, Evernote..basic things like that. I do like the nook glow, just lack the wherewithal to root one. The sales person at Barnes&Noble was Very helpful. He downloaded all of the updates for me there in the store so that I could be sure that the model I had worked up to my expectations ![]() |

That is fabulous! I think you made an excellent choice! That was such a good price on the 16gb. I love the HD so much, I am expecting delivery of another one tomorrow.

I'm thinking of picking up a reduced price Glow now they are only £49. I like to read a different genre at night and they are all side loaded ebooks, I currently use a Kindle Keyboard as I prefer the buttons in bed, but a Glow would seem a decent replacement. I have no plans to root it, I'll just get an SD card so I have a decent memory size.
