Hi all, this is my first time posting in this section so I hope we get along
![]() Ever since months ago I've noticed quite a serious problem developing with my Kindle. It's a Paperwhite 1, and I've happily used it for more than a year now. However, this problem has been preventing me from reading any new books. I like to add my own books from Gutenburg or a translated work (yes, I read light novels) using Calibre as it handles metadata quite well and has a user-friendly interface. The problem is, books are not showing up on the Kindle once I convert them from EPUB to MOBI, and send them to the device. It has the same result if I copy them manually. Through some Googling I gather that the Kindle is not indexing them for some reason - why? It's preventing me from reading new books! Please help! ![]() |

You almost certainly have one book which is failing to index - this will prevent any new books from showing up.
Delete the new books you've added, and then add them a few at a time, waiting for each batch to finished indexing before you add the next. To see what is currently indexing, go to the home page, tap the "Search" button, and enter a random text string. It will say "N items not currently indexed" (if any); tap on that link to see what those items are. One thing I would say: you really should be converting books to AWZ3 format, not Mobi; there's no reason to use Mobi. |

@defan752-
What HarryT said, plus when you find the problem book (or books) do a re-conversion in Calibre -- either mobi/mobi or mobi/azw3... or better yet if you still have the original epub, then convert epub/azw3. This will usually sort the problem. Good luck! |

One reason to use mobi instead of azw3 is that if you want to email the document to your kindle using Amazon's personal document service, and then have it in your library, Amazon doesn't accept azw3.

If you are sending to Personal Documents service, have calibre generate 'hybrid' MOBI (with both mobi and kf8). PDS will deliver kf8 if the Kindle or Kindle app understands that, and mobi otherwise. I usually use Send To Kindle app also as it accepts 50MB files, whereas email may limit to 10MB.

Thanks for the quick responses guys. I'm working on finding the problem book, I'll update once I find it.
BTW - I like to use mobi because it reads better for some reason on my Kindle. |

I tried the azw3 as well and my kindle PW was not handling it well, so I deleted a few books and got them right back via the Mobi format....it's been definitely better.

BTW I'm going to delete and add all my books back - Deleting just new books doesn't work for me. Last edited by defan752; 09-25-2013 at 09:33 PM. Reason: Forgot to insert message |
