Kindle 3 Password Problems

I recently got a kindle 3 from someone and I realized it's password protected. I've tried the resetmykindle trick but it doesn't seem to work for me. Am I doing it wrong? Can someone help me?
Does the battery need to be at a certain percentage?

Ask the person you got the Kindle from what the password is.....?

IIRC, the hard factory reset trick works in these cases (the downside is that it actually does a factory reste, wiping books & settings in the process):

Unplug your kindle, then do a hard reboot (hold the power switch for ~15s), then hold [HOME] as soon as possible during the boot, then follow the on screen instructions.
