Update Kobo Touch via external SD card

Would anyone know if it's possible to upgrade the firmware via only the external SD card?

My Touch's data connection is broken, the microUSB connector unwelded itself and probably caused some damage to the data controller as it cannot connect to anything; At least it's still charging and can still be used by sideloading books on the external SD
But I'm stuck with firmware 1.9.12 and w/o wifi connection as the Touch is not activated; I have a model B, with a memory chip and not internal SD card, therefore I cannot mess with the file system via a computer.
I guess my only option to activate and enable a wifi connection is to upgrade the firmware via the external SD...

I *think* the B also had an SD card. Take a look through this thread https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=211265

If I'm right, just ask in that thread for an SD card image. Ideally what you want is an SD card image for a B that has been upgraded, and the creator of the image has done a logout from accout to remove the database but leave it at a new F/W level.

The N905B I have here has an internal SD card. Have you opened it to check? If it does have an internal card, you could put the card in a PC and copy the firmware files to the card. That should update it when you put the card back in and restart.

You must be right of model B, but my Touch is actually of the first model (unlucky), the board looks like here: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=144487
I didn't see the model being written on the bottom side, so I mentioned the one from the ticket, obviously incorrect.

Any suggestions for this case?

If the internals are like that, then you have the original Touch. This will have "MODEL: N905" as part of the info around the USB socket.

Unfortunately, I think that means there is nothing you can do. Unless you can find someone who can repair the USB socket.

I got the USB connector repaired, but either it's not repaired properly or it made some more damage (like a shortcircuit) while loosened. Either way, the only function I get from the USB is charging.
