Interesting idea, but it's not for me. I wouldn't want a phone that big and the price is likely to be stupidly high for just a 6" e-reader.

It is announced at a "premium price" so it will certainly be expensive, however if the e-ink cover is included and some of the other ad-ons, then it might actually be price worthy. You would only need one device and despite its size it's not like you need to schlep it around. At least Alcatel is trying to think out of the box, but if you can't use a reading app on the screen then it is pretty much useless, for me at least.

but you can read and phone at the same time and also get immediate updates from facebook and twitter at the same time as you would not want to socially excluded or behind everyone else.

this makes it ideal to check facebook and twitter status as you read so that you are not missing out from your social network.

i hope they have a popup which goes on screen as you read from the book but if not then i suggest someone write an app right away for this.

in fact this could a killer app.
a popup which overlays the page you are reading with facebook messages and twitter updates.

if any of you readers implement this idea of MINE i would be want a 25% royalty for suggesting the idea as it came to me as i am writing this on grounds of copyright.

I don't often make predictions, but this time I'll make an exception: neither the cover, nor anything else nifty will be included in the price.

If that is the case we are most likely looking at a $1.000+ purchase, and then there are better alternatives available. Until it is released though, I hope it is Ok with you if I keep my optimistic innocence?

My thinking is I think it's very unlikely you will be able to use it for reading I think I've seen a concept video from a year or more ago where they were planning to use it to show some basic info at a glance such as notifications, emails etc.

I believe it is possible to send some stuff from the LCD to it but you wouldn't be able to change pages etc without the lcd touchscreen on at the same time.

Then again maybe I'm thinking of a different company but the concept was very similar.

Absolutely. As long as it's not overdone it's quite an endearing quality.
