Glo Hanging When Opening Book

I've been having a problem recently with books hanging when trying to open them. The screen will blank and then display the book title in the header and I'll see something like "CHAPTER TWO -- LOADING" in the footer and then it just sits there. Tapping on the header to bring up the menu then closing the menu displays the text or putting the device to sleep and waking it up does the same.

Anyone else having this problem or know a fix? I'm running F/W 2.8.1. The current books that I'm having troubles with are Horus Rising by Dan Abnett and American Gods by Neil Gaiman.

This sounds like a problem that has been reported when the book has embedded fonts. If you select a font other than "Document default", it will probably work correctly. The problem has been reported to Kobo.

Hmm; I'm using my own font instead of the Document Default; should I try just stripping the font out of the actual .epub?

Your using a sideloaded font? Does it happen if you choose something else? If so, maybe the problem is actually happening when a non-Kobo supplied font is used.

I've tried it using Amasis, Georgia, Andada (SL), Iowan Old Style (SL), Charis SIL (SL), and Document Default (which I think is Times).

I had that problem after updated to 2.8.1.. A book I was reading just fine, then went to home screen, then back to the book, went to the loading page and would not open again after repeated tries. That is one reason I went back to 2.6.1. I was out of the house and couldn't continue reading my book! Had to start something new. Very annoying.

I have the same issue. I found waiting ten to fifteen seconds and then pressing bar at top and then main body usually makes book appear. It works most of the time.

For me, pressing the upper right corner (the one that creates a bookmark) solves the problem immediately.

Invoking the top menu and then tapping on the screen also solves the problem.

It does, but when it displays -- at least on mine -- the top and bottom lines will be cut off half-way through the line. Paging back/forward and returning back to the page will fix it.

I have seen that occasionally, but not consistently. The dog ear solution seems easier.
