Apparently not yet ready for the market place, but it sure would be nice to no longer need my drawer full of chargers. |

This would be totally revolutionary if they could extend the range a bit more. There are tons of applications where battery power doesn't work well because you have something that's relatively small but draws high current. And just imagine how small you could make devices, or how much more functionality you could cram in, if you didn't need to give up a huge portion of the space for a battery.

I'm usually not one of the tin foil hat squad, but I might worry about the radiation from this. The article didn't mention anything about what kind of radiation is used.

It also sounds fairly wasteful. The power must be radiated everywhere, and the stuff that can use it does. I wonder what the background will be like in high density places like condos and apartment blocks?

I wish they'd make a device that would wirelessly charge me up in the mornings so I could get out of bed on time for a change.

Seems like you have to connect your devices to the correct Wattup charger for this to work so one is not eliminating a charger. Possibly adding more.

RF, of course. It says 5.8 Ghz. They sure ain't sending beta particles. I don't know how they can safely transmit that much power that distance on that frequency, nor, if they can, why we all aren't charging our lower power devices with ambient RF already, so I'm skeptical. But hopeful. |

This reminds me of something I think Nikola Tesla had in mind, called the using a tower to communicate and even send energy wirelessly over large distances.
