True. Characters can have their own vocabularies I'm sure. I mean a drunken cab driver won't use the same language as a baptist minister or an old maid schoolteacher for example. Of course I imagine it also has to do with what your market is as well. Some publishers are probably more open to profanities in books they publish than others. I mean I wouldn't expect a publisher that deals only with books for school age kids to accept a book with salty language for publication for example.
