.mobi files not appearing in K4T

Hello y'all! I've got a Kindle Touch and I'm having issues with ebooks displaying in the book browser.

The books (I've tried with multiple files) are all .mobi files, generated from HTML files using kindlegen. After copying the ebook (and ensuring that the file is actually on the Kindle) the ebooks don't appear. At first I figured that it must be stuck indexing all the files on the device, but I've left it idle for about 20 minutes with no results.

Here's the real head-scratcher: if I instead copy an .azw3 file (Calibre informs me that they are of KF8 format), the book appears almost instantaneously on the home screen. Weird, huh? Is it because of the extension that the Kindle indexes it first?

I could probably just change the extension to 'azw', but that seems like a temporary solution, and this issue's really annoying me.

If anyone has any suggestions for how to fix this, I'd really appreciate it.

Have you tried rebooting the Kindle? Have you checked to see whether or not the books in question really have been indexed?

Well, after some experimentation, it seems like the Kindle just didn't like the book. I tried rebooting, converting the HTML book with ebook-convert and kindlegen, with no results.

However, other Mobipocket books show up perfectly. For whatever reason, it didn't like a specific HTML file converted to MOBI.

So I gave up on that file, and just converted it to AZW3. The odd thing is that the HTML file contained only images. No tables, special formatting, etc.

Argh, whatever happened to just having a file browser?!

Your original post stated that NO mobi book was appearing on the Kindle ("The books (I've tried with multiple files) are all .mobi files..."). Are you saying that this one faulty book prevented any ".mobi" file from being displayed?

Yes, that is correct. None of the other files were the issue, it was just this troublesome file that prevented the others from appearing.

That's another data point... confirming that indeed, a single book that the Kindle doesn't like for whichever reason can cause all sorts of interesting behavior.

Been there - one bad file prevented me from seeing other books I had added in the same batch. For the record, I did a mobi to mobi conversion after identifying the culprit, which took care of the problem.
